As you can see in the above picture, we start our video game training very early. This year the boys have become obsessed with video games both their handheld DS's and the Wii. They have enjoyed playing and watching people play them for quite a number of years but this year seems to be the breakthrough year for the older 3. They eat, sleep and live video games. They are all quite good too, especially Matthew. He likes almost any racing game and they all love any Mario or Kirby game. Matthew even reads the instruction booklets word for word so he can learn all he can.Jonathan on the other hand just like to collect the games and information and such. He does play but really enjoys watching. He googled (he loves to google things and watch youtube) info for his Nintendo DS during Christmas Break and discovered that there was actually a newer model called the Nintendo DSi, after watching numerous videos on YouTube about it he became obsessed with getting a white one. As most of you know these things are not cheap and the boy were very blessed by my parents and received their DS lites for Christmas in 2008, which was an upgrade from the Leapster. Anyway, I told him he needed to save his money and then he could get one. Gramma, my mom, thought this was so cute that she told Jonathan that she would give him a dollar everytime she saw him. I began giving him a weekly sum too. So during Spring Break I finally lost my mind and took them to Game Stop, which has now become the number 1 place they ask to go. Jonathan had saved up quite a sum, not enough but we had some things to trade in too. He got his white DSi and couldn't have been happier. Later that day I came to realize that this thing is going to cost even more money because you can buy points and download games to it just like the Wii, which until that day we had never done either.
Matthew discovered where to download points on the Wii and even found my Visa debit card to buy them with. Thankfully I caught him in time but I now must be very aware of where I have my card. Today he came to me looking for a Master Card. It is funny and scary all at the same time.
In the picture I posted you might have noticed that Luke now has the new DSi XL. Which is a bigger version of the DSi. He got that on his birthday in March using his b-day money and we traded in an older DS Lite. Seth will of course get all the hand me down systems until he is old enough to get a new one. For the record, yes, I have one too. Just the normal DS Lite that my husband bought me years ago. So some nights the 5 of us all sit in the same room racing against each other in Mario Kart DS or Diddy Kong Racing. Seth is usually in my lap trying to help me play. We give Family Game Night a whole new meaning.
